About the Book

This website was created to tell the story of The Band of Joy, and all of it's different versions. It is about the start in April 1967 till the last gigs were played in August 1968. It featured no less than six different versions including; the most famous and last but one! with Mr Plant and Bonham before they left to join the New yardbirds later Led Zeppelin.

And my involvement with at least three versions as road manager and also friend, of all the main members of The Band of Joy. We still get together once a year as a reunion on ex-possessed/Band of Joy members -- who there are many!

Anybody who remembers The Band of Joy in the sixties or played, roadied with them. I would be glad to hear from you, to put more information on the website and Photo's or gig dates would be most welcome. To suppliment my catalogue, credit will always be left!

Does anyone know the where abouts of keyboard player, Chris Brown who lived in Dagger Lane, West Bromwich -- who was in the Band of Joy. I would love to hear from him.

About me

My name is Harry Barber, I was born in West Bromwich in 1947.

I played with many bands from 1965 till 1979 including; I also was roadie with many well known bands to which I played the Drums and still do to this day! I try to play weekly at The Hand Hotel Llangollen with my son and friends.

I moved to Llangollen in 1990 to pursue my other passion, Steam Trains. I got a job on the local Steam Railway as a Carriage and Wagon engineer. I lived and raised my family here to this day, its a beautiful town and I love to walk all around the valley when the Welsh Weather permits!

As of May 2026, I achieved my goal of climbing every Munroe in Scotland, of which there are 282 of them. I started this journey in my youth, and finished on Ben More on the Island of Mull.
